Astrée

Astrée is the French form of Astraea, a name derived from the Greek word 'astraios' meaning 'starry' or 'star-maiden'. In Greek mythology, Astraea was the virgin goddess of justice, innocence, and purity. She was the last immortal to leave Earth during the Iron Age, ascending to the heavens to become the constellation Virgo. Her return to Earth was prophesied to herald a new Golden Age.

The name gained some literary prominence through Honoré d'Urfé's 17th-century pastoral novel 'L'Astrée', which was highly influential in French literature and culture. This work helped popularize the name in France, associating it with themes of idealized love and pastoral beauty. While not exceedingly common, it has maintained a delicate and poetic appeal.
