Anttonia is a variant of Antonia, which is the feminine form of the Roman family name Antonius. The Antonius gens was a prominent plebeian family in ancient Rome. The most famous member was Mark Antony, the Roman politician and general. The meaning of Antonius is debated, but it is widely believed to be derived from the Greek 'anteo' (to meet, to confront) or 'anthos' (flower), or more commonly, from an Etruscan origin of unknown meaning, later associated with 'priceless' or 'inestimable' in Latin.
