Andochius is a name with ancient roots, primarily associated with an early Christian martyr, Saint Andochius. He was a priest who, along with Saint Thyrsus and Saint Felix, was sent from Smyrna (modern Izmir, Turkey) to Gaul (modern France) in the 2nd century AD to preach the Gospel. They were martyred in Saulieu, Burgundy, around 177 AD during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The name itself is believed to be of Gaulish or Celtic origin, though its exact etymology is debated. Some scholars suggest it derives from elements meaning 'leader' or 'worthy'.
