Amonianusz / Ammonios / Ammonius

Amonianusz is a Polish transliteration of the Greek name Ammonios (Ἀμμώνιος), which means 'of Amun'. Amun was a major ancient Egyptian deity, often depicted as a ram or a man with a ram's head. The name became known in the Hellenistic world due to the worship of Amun, particularly in the oracle of Amun at Siwa Oasis, which was famously visited by Alexander the Great.

The name Ammonios was borne by several early Christian saints and scholars, which helped its dissemination in the Byzantine Empire and beyond. The 'usz' ending is a common Polish suffix for male names of foreign origin, particularly those ending in '-ius' or '-ios' in Latin or Greek.
