It derives directly from the Latin word 'amanda', which is the gerundive form of the verb 'amare' meaning 'to love'. The name was popularized in literature, notably by Colley Cibber's play 'Love's Last Shift' (1696), where a character named Amanda appears. While Amanda became widely used, Amandha emerged as a less common, alternative spelling, possibly influenced by other names or simply as a stylistic variation.
